Information in details

The construction of the first classical gymnasium located at 3/10, Rustaveli Ave as we know from archival materials, started in the 1830s. The building was reconstructed several times. The first thorough reconstruction was carried out by architect Efianjev in 1860-1861, and slightly later by German architect Otto Jacob Simonson in 1870-1873. It was at this time that the building got a classicist-neo baroque look. In 1872, the gardener Karl Scharer was invited to arrange the courtyard of the gymnasium. In the 1880s, Leopold Bielefeld was the head of the building's renovation works.
