1,  Machabeli and 6, Leonidze Streets

According to archival materials, the owner of the building located at the intersection of 1,  Machabeli and 6, Leonidze Streets was Ivane Mirzoev, a rich Armenian merchant. In 1897, also Korghanova was recorded as the owner. The building in its present form was created as a result of merging two or more buildings. By 1900, the poet Nikoloz Gumilyov's family was renting an apartment in this house from Mirzoev. According to their description, the building had its own electric lighting and the entrance was served by a doorman. On the postcard of the 1900s, the building standing at the intersection of today's Machabeli and Leonidze Streets had a two-story bay window finished with a spire dome. The bay window was destroyed during the Soviet period. According to one of the versions, its cancellation was related to the observance of security measures, so that the Chekists and security workers, massively housed in the houses on Machabeli Street, would have the opportunity to control the entire perimeter from the bay window.
