Information in details
The building of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, located at 52, Rustaveli Ave. is an important building on Rustaveli Avenue, which also has a role in city planning. The building was originally built as the administrative house of "Saknakhshiri". Its construction began in 1949. However, a few years earlier, namely in 1946, a competition was held for the project of the "Saknakhshiri" administrative office. The competition was quite extensive and the leading architects of Tbilisi took part in it. Ten projects were presented, but the jury gave preference to architects M. Chkhikvadze and K. Chkheidze project. The building acquires complexity with the building of the lower station of the cable car located in its yard, which later was realized by the project of K. Chkheidze. The building is an excellent example of Soviet architecture, which tries to include national elements in the stylistic repertoire of the building, along with understanding the city planning.
