Information in details
The three-story building of the Academic Theater named after Shota Rustaveli, located at 17, Rustaveli Ave., was built in 1898-1901, for the artistic society founded in 1887, on the initiative of the merchant of the first guild, Isaya Pithoev. The authors of this building are the architects working in Tbilisi, Kornel Tatishchev and Alexander Shimkevich from Poland. The artistic solution of the facade of the building echoes the Baroque and Rococo styles, which is manifested in the rich decorative elements. In the 10-20s of the 20th century, the cafe "Kimerion" in the basement of the building was a meeting place for poets, writers and artists and played an important role in the artistic life of the beginning of the 20th century. In 1919, the cafe was opened and painted by famous artists, L. Gudiashvili, D. Kakabadze, K. Zdanevich and S. Sudeikin.
