Information in details
44, Aghmashenebeli Ave./9, Anzor Erkomaishvili St., a large two-story building with Latin letter U-shaped planning is one of the important highlights of this section of Agmashenebeli Avenue. The building plays a big role in creating the overall appearance of the street from the historical and urban planning point of view. The building took its present form at the end of the 19th century, although the original volume must have been built in the middle of the same century, because according to the Tbilisi plan of 1867, the "Campaign Division of the Cossack Regimental Commander (Ataman)" was located in this place, and a little later, Tbilisi Women's Gymnasium founded in the 1870s by Olga daughter of Teodore which became the second women's gymnasium from 1891, and on the map of 1913 it is already mentioned as the fifth women's gymnasium. The function of the building changed several times in the 20th century. Until 2006, the Ekvtime Takaishvili Tbilisi Culture and Art Center was located here. After being united to the university the building next to the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Cinema University was given to the II block of the mentioned university. The facades of the building, built with old Georgian bricks, covered with rustic decorative plaster, divided by the even rhythm of the rectangular or arched door and window openings, are made in the style of Renaissance-classical eclecticism and have the look of an Italian palazzo. Despite the decoration, the plain and restrained, symmetrical facades create a monumental impression and thus fascinate the visitor.
